We’re pledging 1% to support Fundación La Vecina – Join us!By: auctio
As we build our business, Auctio, it’s important to us to prioritize having a positive impact on the world, so we have joined a movement called “Pledge 1%”. Pledge 1% encourages and challenges individuals and companies to pledge 1% of equity, product, and employee time for their communities.
With our roots being from Colombia, we have committed Auctio to continuing to support Fundacion [Foundation] La Vecina, who helps underprivileged children in the Colombian city of Cartagena through providing them with education and support so that they will have a better future. With funding from a group of Dutch volunteers, the foundation started with 15 students. Today, there are 115 students enrolled from pre-kindergarten through elementary who attend school daily and are devoted to their studies.
Last year, after realizing that only 1 in 10 children have access to computers in Cartagena, we raised $7,000 to expand and renovate La Vecina’s computer lab; we strongly believe that technology can change people’s lives. The world today is very different compared to 20 years ago and it will be very different in another 20 years. Technology is a critical component that has been identified to empower Colombian children, opening doors for additional options for education, personal discovery, and opportunities to earn a living.
As a follow up, there is a Phase 2 with a goal of raising $35,000 to bring technology to the classroom, train their teachers, and adapt technology to their curriculum. Aulas Amigas is a partner helping bring this vision to life. We plan to raise funds to adapt 4 classrooms with Aulas Amigas’ digital classroom technology. Taking the 1% pledge helps companies and individuals demonstrate their philanthropic intent and hold themselves accountable for turning a pledge into action.
Auctio is proud to be a part of this movement and is seeking additional corporate partners to join in raising funds along with personal donations for Foundation La Vecina.
If you can’t help us with a donation at this time, we ask that you please help us get the word out! Share our project with family members, friends, and coworkers.
